On October 1, 2021, Werner Unger was appointed to the Board of Management, which he took over as Chairman on November 1, 2021. Mr. Unger holds a degree in industrial engineering from Karlsruhe and began his career in the management trainee program at Daimler Benz. He then worked for the pharmaceutical group Boehringer Ingelheim GmbH before moving to Institut Fresenius AG as commercial director and later board member. In this function he was responsible for the merger of the institute with SGS Germany and the subsequent integration processes. Since 2005, he has worked mainly as a freelance interim manager and consultant. His focus is on corporate development, IT and strategy development. Since August 2020, Werner Unger has been working for COGNOS – initially as Chairman of the Board of Directors of COGNOS International SE, and from the end of 2020 additionally as Managing Director of COGNOS Education GmbH, Vienna.
Management Division Central Services
Matthias Martin has been a member of the Executive Board of COGNOS AG since July 1, 2017. On February 1, 2019 he took over the Central Services division. Prior to that, he had already held executive responsibilities for Finance & Controlling, IT and Central Services. Before he joined COGNOS, Matthias Martin worked as a tax advisor for BDO AG Wirtschaftsprüfungsgesellschaft. At COGNOS he took over the management of Accounting/Controlling in 2007 and was assigned general signatory powers. In addition Mr. Martin is a member of the executive management of Hochschule Fresenius gem. GmbH.
Hochschule Fresenius – Presence
Kai Metzner has been the Executive Board member responsible for attendance programs at Fresenius University of Applied Sciences since February 1, 2020. He was previously divisional board member for this department. He has also been Managing Director of the sponsoring company and the operating companies of Hochschule Fresenius since February 1, 2019. In September 2017, Kai Metzner joined the COGNOS Group as Managing Director of AMD Akademie Mode & Design GmbH and Head of Business Development. The business graduate previously held various management positions at SRH Holding for eight years, including sole managing director of several SRH universities. Kai Metzner started his career as a consultant. He then worked for four years as Executive Director in the field of foreign and security policy for a globally active foundation. Kai Metzner is a member of the Federal Board of the VPH Association of Private Universities and a member of the Hesse, Rhineland-Palatinate, Saarland State Board of Trustees of the Association for the Promotion of Sciences and Humanities in Germany.
Hochschule Fresenius – Presence
Sascha Kappes has been a member of the management board for the presence programs of Hochschule Fresenius since February 1, 2019. The graduate business economist with the main focus on personnel management has been working in various positions for Hochschule Fresenius gem. GmbH since 2006. From 2013 until 2018 he was in charge of the business of the university’s own Energiewirtschaft GmbH (INEWI)
and since 2015 of Hochschule Fresenius gem. GmbH, where he was Head of Human Resources and Head of University Organization/Administration from 2012.
Since October 2020, he has also been Managing Director of the Hochschule Fresenius online plus GmbH.
Prior to taking up his position at Hochschule Fresenius, Sascha Kappes worked for SGS INSTITUT FRESENIUS GmbH from 1998 until 2006, where he also completed his business management training.
Ludwig Fresenius Schools
Jürgen Weinberg is the Management Board member responsible for Ludwig Fresenius Schools. Since 1996 Jürgen Weinberg has served as Executive Director of Ludwig Fresenius Schools, formerly corporate group DIE SCHULE für Berufe mit Zukunft. Since 2010 he has been authorized officer with signatory powers for COGNOS. In subsequent years he took over the management of further COGNOS companies such as PTL Die Praxis für therapeutische Leistungen GmbH, Mentor Fortbildungen GmbH and THALAMUS Schulen GmbH. Jürgen Weinberg is a graduate business economist and qualified German upper secondary school teacher for mathematics and chemistry. In this capacity he set up the Brecht evening school for higher education qualifications in Hamburg in 1986. At the beginning of 1990 he changed to the DIE SCHULE in Oldenburg/Osnabruck corporate group.
